Did you know? Social media is a persuasive marketing lever and powerful content sharing tool.

Are you leveraging social media to grow your small business?

Social media is a great way to distribute your content and establish you and your small business as subject matter experts in your area(s) of expertise.

Grow brand awareness and get noticed by target audiences!

Of course, that happens only if you use it. (reality check!)

In this blog, I share tips on how to leverage social media to grow your business! With insight and effort, you will be well on your way to getting social.

I’m writing this blog with CAWEE members and business to business in mind.

Heads up! I’ll be facilitating a Social Media Marketing workshop in Toronto in the new year. If you would like to take a deeper dive into social media marketing and learn how to get social media working better for you and your business, please reach out to me!

At the CAWEE morning breakfast on November 9th, I gave a talk about  Social Media for business to business.

Social media is an efficient and effective way to share your expertise!

Here are 10 social media marketing tips: Explained.

Ready?

  1. What is social media? In its simplest form, social media is content + distribution.
  2. What do I share on social media? It’s important to fuel the funnel with a variety of content. Here is a quick rule of thumb:
    • 30% created by you – leverage your area of expertise in a variety of ways. Video, blog, images etc.
    • 30% curated – Share 3rd party content. It’s not about you. Think about the problem your client is trying to solve and share 3rd party content that is related.
    • 30% community – Share tradeshow, industry event, and related content.
    • 10% fun – Observe holidays, be personable. Get real!
  3. How do I find my target audience?
    • Create and share good content regularly.
    • Follow the posting guidelines for each platform.
  4. Which platforms do I share on? For B2B, I suggest no more than 3 platforms. How can you possibly manage more? Here is a suggestion on how to use 3 of them for business to business:
    • LinkedIn (networking)
    • Twitter (discovery and research)
    • Instagram (beauty shots)
  5. Who do I follow? Here is a start:
    • Your clients, prospects, employees & marketplace partners. People and brands.
    • Thought leaders and influencers
    • Athletes, musicians, politicians and comedians.
    • Industry peers and colleagues
    • Companies, people, and products.
  6. How do I find content topics? The sweet spot is where the following intersect:
    • Your brands “why”
    • What your personas care about
    • How you can help them
  7. Where do I publish? The sweet spot is:
    • Where your personas are
    • Knowing how much time you have and how many platforms you can reasonably manage.
  8. Create personas – Get personal. Write a target audience persona that includes demographics (who are they) and behaviors (what do they do and what do they want?)
  9. Get to know analytics – Measure. Measure. Measure! KPI’s and SMART goals. Always measure operational dashboards. Identify what is working and what is not. Learn from it! Use a social dashboard if possible.
  10. Establish a workflow – Very important! Include escalation scenarios as well as production and post-production metrics for your content.

One last thing to mention.

A BONUS tip:

Understand Privacy.

Always read the Privacy policy for each platform before signing up.

Here is LinkedIn’s Privacy Policy link, as an example:

https://www.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy

It’s important to know that social platforms and websites sell your data to advertisers for profit. Everything you do is tracked unless you opt out or install software.

That’s a wrap! I hope these tips prove useful to you!

While I was preparing my talk, I was thinking of the CAWEE members I have gotten to know, and how I may help them improve their social media reach and brand awareness.
